My First Time

The title really grabs you, doesn't it?

Actually, I'm referring to my first blog, EVER.  I'm not blog-savvy enough to know if this is a momentous occasion or not, but I'm feeling pretty excited!  The title also refers to my first ever time away from my 9 1/2 month baby girl, Sidney.  I've been in Washington, D.C. for four nights now, and while I miss her like crazy, it hasn't been quite as hard as I expected.  Being on my own for these few days has been many different things, but mostly I found it was easy to tap into my pre-baby days and feel the glamorous allure of being a young professional in a busy city, and liking it. Although I admit, I did obsessively scroll though pictures of Sidney on my phone anytime I had a moment.  What Mom wouldn't do that?

I want this blog to be many things.  I want to capture things that we do as a family, and show Sidney's progress through life.  It amazes me how quickly she is growing and changing.  She is one smart cookie, if I do say so myself!  While I've been away, she's mastered the art of standing up and also does that cute baby thing where if you say "big girl," she throws her hands up high.  Before I left, she learned to give the absolute BEST baby kisses ever, and I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to some of those tomorrow (along with some kisses from my grown-up husband).

I'd love to blog about cooking.  I love to cook, and am lukewarm about baking (it's far too precise of an art).  Cooking good food, with good whole food ingredients, and then eating the fare with some fine wine is one of my favorite things.  I confess that I don't cook as much these days as I would like.  Sidney still benefits.  I'll spend hours baking, steaming, pureeing and mixing batches of food for her - all while my husband wonders "what's for dinner?"  Sorry, babydoll.  The baby girl seems to trump all these days!

I would also like to blog about travel, and some of my experiences in different parts of the world.  I'm a Navy Officer, formerly the "Surface Warfare" or "ship" type, and have had the good fortune of traveling far and seeing unique places.  Travel is a part of me, and I know that one day my husband and I will take on the world and travel far and wide to see new things.

I'm looking forward to this blog and seeing what comes of it.  Just need to stay dedicated...
